The Preparation for hot yoga can be a project in and of itself. First of all, make sure you are properly hydrated. Because your focus is highly dependent on the water level in your body you will need to be well filled to prepare for the giant loss of water that your body will go through when sweating during class. This will make all the difference. You’ll see.
Second, don’t eat too close to the class. Leave at least 2 hours in between your meal and the class (if it’s a big meal I recommend 3 hours), otherwise, well, you’ll see. It won’t be a pleasant experience. You’ll likely feel sick and nauseous.
Third, make sure you bring extra underwear to change into when you’ve showered after class because you will want to shower and the clothes you wore during class will be soaked in sweat. Your towel will too, by the way, so do bring 2. Studios normally have towels for hire, but it does cost. This is a cost that is usually very small but like any other recurring cost it adds up over time. (I see how that sentence is very obvious, but I just didn’t know how to phrase it). Some of my recommendations for towels and clothing you can find through these links:
Another thing that helps, but which isn’t necessary is to meditate before class. A clear mind will help you through the postures and the stillness. If you aren’t in a state of being attached to everything that’s going on in your mind, you’ll be way less distracted during the postures and the stillness in between.
That’s it for now. Please leave a comment on how you prepare for a hot yoga class. I would love to know!
