Preparing for hot yoga can be a project in and of itself. First of all, make sure you are properly hydrated. Especially if you are in between classes. Since your ability to focus is highly dependent on how hydrated you are you will need to be well filled to prepare for all of the sweating that will take place. How hydrated you are during class will make all the difference.
Second, don’t eat too close to the class. If it’s a big meal it’s a good idea to leave at least 3 hours between eating and practising. If it’s a smaller meal, leave 2 hours in between. You don’t want to eat less than 2 hours before class. Chances are you’d feel very bloated and possibly get sick from it.
Another thing that helps, but which isn’t necessary, is to meditate before class. A clear mind will help you get through the postures and the stillness. The less you react to what’s going on inside your head the easier you will flow through class and the better you’ll feel afterwards.
